Here Inside You

A short, experimental, auto-biographical documentary of the Mana experienced during a stay in New Zealand and the questions of direction during recent changes in my life. Created over a six week study abroad program through a cooperation between Rochester Institute of Technology and Unitec Institute of Technology.

Going into this work, there wasn’t much planning other than I knew I’d have to shoot a film in New Zealand. So I attempted an experiment of doing timelapse for the first time to supplement video I would shoot when I reached Auckland. Everything was shot using a combination of Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 7D and Canon Rebel XTi. All shots taken on both the North and South Islands of New Zealand. The result turned into a feeling of my journey.

The Haka Performers were key to this work and were shot on location at Unitec’s campus. They were scouted when participating in a cross program effort between the school and Rochester Insistute of Technology, led by Stephanie Maxwell. Katie LeVander helped with dressing, make-up and manning a second camera to explore the Haka Performance which was spectacularly put on by the four dancers.
